Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Building and Creativity Expand the Math Mind, a project from Mrs. Tulgestke (2)

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration becauseit supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first graders love math station time. Students move from station to station practicing different skills. During this time I meet with students in small groups that need intervention in different areas of math. Each week the students get the opportunity to work with their fellow students with a building/creativity math tub. Help me provide math tools that are fun, exciting and will elicit creativity.

My students come from homes where chaos is the norm.

Having building toys, freedom to create and explore is suppressed by home situations, organization and other barriers. When they are at school this is their favorite time of the day. Many of my students have never had the time or space to just build and explore with objects. It is even more exciting when they can do this with friends. During this time they learn how to play and share with others. They use their imagination and connect with their classmates. I would greatly appreciate your help providing my first graders with some cool new building materials to use during this important time of the day.
